Eve’s Rings

Reading through some of my other Commission stories, I realise how many of my pieces of jewellery have strong or unusual stories attached to them – this one is no exception. The set of Russian wedding rings (also known as Triple rolling rings) were commissioned to replace a set that had been lost in rather frightening circumstances.

A replacement for a much-loved ring

I don’t normally make copies of other jewellery designs but when Andrea contacted me to discuss making a replacement of a lost ring, I understood her need to help her daughter forget the circumstances in which her ring had been lost.

The original ring was a present from Andrea for her daughter’s 21st birthday and Eve loved it wearing it every day. Sometime later in 2019, Eve and her boyfriend were on holiday in Sri Lanka when the Easter terrorist attack took place. They were quite literally stuck in the midst of the bombing in Columbo, and very wisely decided to get out of the city as quickly as possible. In the haste to escape the danger and subsequent confusion, the ring was sadly, left on her bedside table and lost. Eve and her boyfriend both managed to get to safety but she was really upset about losing the ring as she loved it.

Andrea had asked me to make the replacement with plenty of time for Eve’s Christmas present. When it was finished, Andrea was so pleased, she couldn’t wait to give it to her and sent me a message just a few days later …

“I really couldn’t wait until Xmas! It fits and Eve loves it more than the old one! Thank you. X”

〜 Andrea

Clearly a happy client

Many of my client’s come back again with other projects and that really is the very best compliment that I can ever receive. Andrea is one such client and last year she asked me to make another ring for her daughter for Christmas.

This time Andrea commissioned a ‘simple but pretty ring – not too fussy- perhaps with a garnet as that is Eve’s birthstone’. Andrea also referenced a ring on my website that I had remodelled using my mum and grandma’s engagement rings as it had reminded her of the ring her own mum had given her on 18th birthday.

I really enjoyed making the ring which wasn’t without it’s challenges, but it was hugely satisfying. The reference ring was a 1970s design, and by using a simple rub-over collet for the stone setting, a much more contemporary look was created which reflected a younger style.
