Remodelled Heirloom Rings
I’ve been more than a little slow to share some of my recent (and not so recent) remodelled jewellery commissions. I have some exciting and interesting ones to reveal so am planning a few catch-up posts to show you in the coming weeks. I hope you will enjoy checking back in to see them.
Beautiful sapphire and sparkling diamond rings
The brief for this striking pair of rings was to incorporate the diamonds and sapphire from my client’s engagement ring alongside an old cut diamond inherited from her mother.
Julie explained that her taste has changed, with her now liking bolder jewellery styles than in her earlier years. She also didn’t really wear gold much anymore but liked the idea of using the gold from her existing rings and combining it with silver.
Working together with the client
Julie is an artist and enjoys an active outdoor lifestyle and therefore it was important that the stones were safely set so, we agreed to use rub over settings to hold her sentimental gems in place. After carefully removing the precious gems, the gold was melted down and reworked to make collet settings for the stones. At this stage Julie came back for a fitting and to decide on the placement of the sapphire and diamonds before I then soldered the collects into position and the sapphire and diamonds were set.
Next, was to incorporate the remaining smaller diamond in to her gold wedding band. Too deep to flush set in to the band alone, we made the decision to use the gold band as a liner inside a complementing hammered silver band. For a comfortable fit, I turned her original wedding ring inside out allowing what was the rounded outer edge to sit neatly against her finger.
Bringing new life to inherited jewellery
Julie and her husband were delighted with the finished rings and, most importantly, so was her father when they shared the transformation of his wife’s former ring with him. I always enjoy bringing new life to jewellery that is no longer worn and with prices continuing to rise on silver and gold, it definitely makes sense to reuse the precious metal jewellery that you already have. Perhaps there is something that you would like me to re imagine for you?
