Friendship Necklaces

I’m often asked to make sets of necklaces for friends and these two commissions link together because of the use of geometric shapes in their design. Chosen for the symbolism associated with each of the shapes, they have strong meanings and significance to the two groups of friends.

Off the peg Friendship Jewellery comes almost exclusively in sets of two but what about all the trios out there?

Close connections & unconditional support

I created the first set of necklaces as an absolute ‘one off’ because the group in question are connected very closely to me. I wanted them to know that their unconditional support for one another in difficult times had been recognised and appreciated beyond words.

I chose a triangle not only because there are three friends but because triangles are exceptionally strong. Pressure put upon any part is evenly spread across each side proving it’s strength and stability. Furthermore, when individual triangles are joined together, they become even stronger- something I have witnessed first-hand within the friendship many times.

Gifted with gratitude and love

Each pendant, just like each of the young women, is individual. The single gold edge being placed on different sides to recognise just that. However, in addition when they are brought together, they make up an even more precious ‘whole’.

The friends that these necklaces were made for, know that they were given with much gratitude and love. I hope that they enjoy wearing them together and apart.

Everlasting circles

Having made the ‘Triangle Trio’ set, I was approached to make something similar for another trio of friends.

With simple geometric shapes being very much on trend, the client and I agreed to base the design around a simple circle or ring to represent the group. We all know the significance of circles having no beginning or end and therefore being everlasting, so they are a perfect symbol for friendship.

In addition, looped on to each ring are three smaller rings, two made in silver and one in gold and, as with the different format of each of the Triangular pendants, the gold ring was positioned differently on each necklace to represent their individuality.

Apparently, the young women who now wear the pendants are often asked about the design when they are apart but when they are all out together, delight in informing people that no, they are not the same- just like the three friends- they are each quite unique!!

“Charlotte created three gorgeous necklaces for myself and my two friends. We each take pride in wearing them every day – even more so knowing that the design is completely unique to us. As we’re not able to see each other as often as we’d like, to have something this personal is truly special and I’m very grateful to Charlotte for creating something so wearable and striking, as well as sentimental.”
